The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the Event (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) befalls. 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 It will bring down [some] and raise up [others]. 3 When the earth will tremble, shivering. 4 and the mountains crumbled 5 And become dust dispersing. 6 And you become [of] three kinds: 7 The people of the right hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their right hands. How happy they will be! 8 The people of the left hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their left hands. How miserable they will be! 9 And the forerunners, the forerunners - 10 These are they who are drawn nigh (to Allah), 11 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise). 12 A multitude of those of old 13 And a few from those of later times. 14 On couches wrought of gold, 15 Reclining face to face. 16 They will be served by immortal boys, 17 with goblets and ewers and a cup filled with a drink drawn from a running spring, 18 (no brows throbbing, no intoxication) 19 And fruit of what they select 20 and any flesh of fowl that they desire. 21 And (there will be) Houris (fair females) with wide, lovely eyes (as wives for the pious), 22 Like unto hidden pearls, 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 They will not hear therein ill speech or commission of sin - 25 Except the saying, “Peace, peace.” 26 And the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 27 [They will be] among lote trees with thorns removed 28 and banana trees, 29 Lengthened shadows, 30 And water flowing constantly, 31 and abundant fruit, 32 unfailing, unforbidden, 33 And maidens incomparable. 34 for, behold, We shall have brought them into being in a life renewed, 35 And made them virgin - pure (and undefiled), - 36 loving and of equal age. 37 for the people of the right hand 38
