The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ WHEN THAT which must come to pass [at last] comes to pass, 1 (and none denies its descending) 2 Abasing (one party), exalting (the other), 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 and the mountains are shattered into [countless] shards, 5 So that they become dust seattered. 6 And you will become divided into three categories. 7 Those on the Right -- how blessed are those on the Right! 8 And the People on the Left: and how miserable will be the People on the Left! 9 But the foremost shall be [they who in life were] the foremost [in faith and good works]: 10 Those are the ones brought near [to Allah] 11 In gardens of tranquility; 12 Many of them will be from the ancient people 13 And a few of those (foremost) will be from the later time (generations). 14 on lavish couches 15 Reclining therein face to face. 16 Immortal youths will serve them 17 Cups and decanters, beakers full of sparkling wine, 18 No headache will they have therefrom, nor will they be intoxicated - 19 And fruit that they prefer 20 and the flesh of birds, as they desire. 21 And [with them will be their] companions pure, most beautiful of eye, 22 Like unto hidden pearls, 23 a recompense for all that they did. 24 There hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination 25 But only the saying of: Salam!, Salam! (greetings with peace)! 26 And those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 27 They will live amid the thornless lot trees 28 Among Talh trees with flowers (or fruits) piled one above another,- 29 and continuous shade, 30 And water flowing constantly, 31 and fruit abounding, 32 undiminished and never denied 33 And raised couches; 34 We have created maidens perfectly 35 having resurrected them as virgins, 36 full of love, well-matched 37 For those on the right hand; 38
