The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the Event (the resurrection) comes 1 There is, at its occurrence, no denial. 2 (a calamitous Event) that shall turn things upside down: 3 when the earth will suddenly shake with a terrible shaking, 4 and the mountains are totally shattered and crumble to pieces 5 So that they will become floating dust particles. 6 And ye will be three kinds: 7 Then (there will be) the Companions of the Right Hand;- What will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 8 Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) 9 As for the Foremost, they will be the foremost! 10 It is they who are the close ones. 11 In Gardens of Bliss: 12 Many of them will be from the ancient people 13 and a few from later times. 14 On studded thrones. 15 reclining upon them, set face to face, 16 Immortal youths will serve them 17 with goblets, and ewers, and cups filled with water from unsullied springs 18 Wherefrom they will get neither any aching of the head, nor any intoxication. 19 And fruits that they may like. 20 Bird meats that they relish, 21 and there shall be wide-eyed maidens, 22 Like pearls within their shells, 23 All this shall be theirs as a reward for their deeds. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk nor any sinful speech. 25 Except the saying, “Peace, peace.” 26 And the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 27 They shall recline on high amidst lote trees without thorns 28 and serried acacias, 29 and spreading shade 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 and an abundance of fruits, 32 Unending, unforbidden, 33 and raised couches 34 Indeed We formed them (the houris and all believing women), 35 We have made them virgins, 36 The beloved of their husbands, of one age. 37 For those of the right hand. 38
