The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ When the great event comes to pass, 1 there is no denying its coming 2 (it will) abase (some) and exalt (others). 3 When the earth shall be shaken with a (severe) shaking, 4 And the mountains shall be made to crumble with (an awful) crumbling, 5 and will scatter abroad into fine dust. 6 And ye will be three kinds: 7 Thus, there shall be such as will have attained to what is right: oh, how [happy] will be they who have attained to what is right! 8 And (then) those on the left hand; what of those on the left hand? 9 And the preceders are the preceders. 10 It is they who are the close ones. 11 In the gardens of bliss. 12 A multitude of those (foremost) will be from the first generations (who embraced Islam). 13 And a few of those of later time. 14 On thrones decorated, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 They will be served by immortal boys, 17 with goblets, jugs and cups of crystal clear wine 18 Whereby there shall be neither headiness nor will they be inebriated. 19 And with fruit from that which they choose. 20 and the flesh of birds, as they desire. 21 And (there will be) Companions with beautiful, big, and lustrous eyes,- 22 as the likeness of hidden pearls, 23 A recompense for that which they have been working. 24 Not frivolity will they hear therein, nor any taint of ill,- 25 but only the saying: 'Peace, Peace' 26 And the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 27 mid thornless lote-trees 28 And banana-trees (with fruits), one above another. 29 And a shade ever-spread. 30 and outpoured waters, 31 And fruit, abundant [and varied], 32 never-ending and unforbidden. 33 And raised couches. 34 Indeed We formed them (the houris and all believing women), 35 And have made them virgins. 36 Beloved (by nature), equal in age,- 37 For the fellows on the right hand. 38
