The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the inevitable event comes, 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 It will bring low (some); (and others) it will exalt; 3 when the earth shall be rocked 4 And the hills are ground to powder 5 and will scatter abroad into fine dust. 6 You will become three categories: 7 Those of the right hand -- how (happy) will be those of the right hand! 8 And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? 9 But the foremost shall be [they who in life were] the foremost [in faith and good works]: 10 Those are the ones brought near [to Allah] 11 In gardens of tranquility; 12 A multitude of those (foremost) will be from the first generations (who embraced Islam). 13 and a few from later times. 14 (They will be) on Thrones encrusted (with gold and precious stones), 15 reclining upon them, facing one another [in love]. 16 There wait on them immortal youths 17 with goblets, jugs and cups of crystal clear wine 18 No headache will they have therefrom, nor will they be intoxicated - 19 and such fruits as they shall choose, 20 And the flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And [for them are] fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes, 22 like unto pearls [still] hidden in their shells. 23 a recompense for all that they did. 24 They will not hear any unnecessary or sinful talk 25 Except the word peace, peace. 26 NOW AS FOR those who have attained to righteousness - what of those who have attained to righteousness? 27 (will be) among thornless Lote trees. 28 And [banana] trees layered [with fruit] 29 Lengthened shadows, 30 And water poured out 31 and fruit abounding, 32 unfailing, unforbidden, 33 And carpets raised. 34 Indeed We formed them (the houris and all believing women), 35 And made them virginal, 36 full of love, well-matched 37 like of age for the Companions of the Right. 38
