The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When there happeneth the Event. 1 Which is bound to happen undoubtedly -- 2 Abasing (one party), exalting (the other), 3 When the earth is shaken with convulsion 4 and the mountains will crumble 5 Becoming dust scattered abroad, 6 [on that Day,] then, shall you be [divided into] three kinds. 7 The People on the Right: and how fortunate will be the People on the Right! 8 Those on the Left -- how unlucky are those on the Left! 9 But the foremost shall be [they who in life were] the foremost [in faith and good works]: 10 It is they who are the close ones. 11 They will dwell in the Gardens of Bliss: 12 a good many of those of olden times, 13 And a few of those of later time. 14 On studded thrones. 15 Reclining on them, facing one another. 16 There will circulate among them young boys made eternal 17 with goblets, and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 No after-ache will they receive therefrom, nor will they suffer intoxication: 19 along with fruits of their choice; 20 And the flesh of fowl such as they desire. 21 and there shall be wide-eyed maidens, 22 like pearls preserved in their shells, 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 They will not hear any unnecessary or sinful talk 25 Nought but the saying: peace! peace! 26 Those on the Right, how fortunate are those on the Right! 27 Among thorn-less lote-trees. 28 And banana-trees (with fruits), one above another. 29 and shade extended, 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 And plenty of fruits. 32 That will neither finish, nor ever be stopped. 33 And maidens incomparable. 34 We have indeed developed these women with an excellent development. 35 So made them as maidens. 36 Loving (their husbands only), equal in age. 37 for the people of the right hand 38
