The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the Terror descends 1 There is no belying its coming to pass-- 2 Abasing (one party), exalting (the other), 3 When the earth shall be shaken to its depths, 4 And the hills are ground to powder 5 and become a dust, scattered, 6 And you will become divided into three categories. 7 The people of the right hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their right hands. How happy they will be! 8 And there shall be such as will have lost themselves in evil: oh, how [unhappy] will be they who have lost themselves in evil! 9 The foremost ones (in faith and virtue) - the foremost ones in receiving their reward. 10 These will be those nearest to Allah. 11 They are in Gardens of peace. 12 a large group of the early believers, 13 And a few from among the latter. 14 (They will be) on Thrones encrusted (with gold and precious stones), 15 reclining on them, arrayed face to face; 16 immortal youths going round about them 17 with goblets and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 which will not cause them any intoxication or illness. 19 Also, they will be served with the fruits of their choice 20 And the flesh of fowls, any that they may desire. 21 And companions with big beautiful eyes 22 Like pearls safely hidden. 23 as reward for their deeds. 24 They will not hear therein any vain or sinful talk, 25 Nought but the saying: peace! peace! 26 The Companions of the Right 27 Midst lote-trees thornless. 28 and banana trees, 29 and spreading shade 30 And water everflowing. 31 And fruits numberless, 32 Unending, unforbidden, 33 And couches raised up. 34 Lo! We have created them a (new) creation 35 and We made them spotless virgins, 36 The beloved of their husbands, of one age. 37 For the sake of the companions of the right hand. 38
