The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Event (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) befalls. 1 Which is bound to happen undoubtedly -- 2 (it will) abase (some) and exalt (others). 3 This will happen when the earth is shaken, shaken 4 and the mountains crumbled, 5 So they will become like fine dust, scattered in a shaft of light. 6 And ye are classes three. 7 Then the companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 8 Then those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) will be those of the left hand! 9 But the foremost shall be [they who in life were] the foremost [in faith and good works]: 10 These are they who are drawn nigh (to Allah), 11 They are in Gardens of peace. 12 a large group of the early believers, 13 but only a few from the later generations. 14 On lined couches, 15 reclining upon them, facing one another [in love]. 16 There will circulate among them young boys made eternal 17 Carrying bowls and pitchers – and cups filled with wine flowing before them. 18 (no brows throbbing, no intoxication) 19 And fruit that they prefer 20 And flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And pure, beautiful ones, 22 like the pearls in their shells: 23 a recompense for all that they did. 24 They shall not hear therein vain or sinful discourse, 25 Nought but the saying: peace! peace! 26 NOW AS FOR those who have attained to righteousness - what of those who have attained to righteousness? 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 And [banana] trees layered [with fruit] 29 and shade extended, 30 and gushing water, 31 and fruits in abundance, 32 undiminished and never denied 33 And carpets raised. 34 and the noble maidens that We have created 35 and shall have made them virgins, 36 Lovers, friends, 37 for the Companions of the Right 38
