The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the Event inevitable cometh to pass, 1 Then will no (soul) entertain falsehood concerning its coming. 2 (it will) abase (some) and exalt (others). 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 And the mountains are crumbled, crumbled. 5 they will become like dust scattered around. 6 you shall be divided into three parties, 7 Then (as to) the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 8 Companions of the Left, what are the Companions of the Left? 9 And the foremost in the race, the foremost in the race: 10 (The foremost ones) will be the nearest ones to God 11 They are in Gardens of peace. 12 a good many of those of olden times, 13 but only a few from the later generations. 14 [They will be seated] on gold-encrusted thrones of happiness, 15 Reclining face to face. 16 There will circulate among them young boys made eternal 17 with goblets and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 They shall not be affected with headache thereby, nor shall they get exhausted, 19 and with fruit of any kind that they may choose, 20 And the flesh of fowl such as they desire. 21 And there will be fair ones large eyed. 22 Like pearls within their shells, 23 as reward for their deeds. 24 Not frivolity will they hear therein, nor any taint of ill,- 25 but only the tiding of inner soundness and peace. 26 And the fellows on the right hand; how be happy shall the fellows on the right hand be! 27 Among thorn-less lote-trees. 28 and acacias flower-clad, 29 Lengthened shadows, 30 Gushing water, 31 And fruit in plenty, 32 Unending, unforbidden, 33 And exalted thrones. 34 Indeed We formed them (the houris and all believing women), 35 And made them virginal, 36 chastely amorous, 37 For the sake of the companions of the right hand. 38
