The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the Event inevitable cometh to pass, 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 when the earth will suddenly shake with a terrible shaking, 4 And the mountains are crumbled, crumbled. 5 and will scatter abroad into fine dust. 6 You shall then become three groups. 7 (First) those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 8 Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) 9 And the foremost in the race, the foremost in the race: 10 those are they brought nigh the Throne, 11 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise). 12 A number of people from those of old, 13 and a few from later times. 14 [They will be seated] on gold-encrusted thrones of happiness, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 (and there) shall wait on them immortal youths 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of limpid drink. 18 No headache will they have therefrom, nor will they be intoxicated - 19 with fruits of their own choice 20 And the flesh of fowls, any that they may desire. 21 And (there will be) Houris (fair females) with wide, lovely eyes (as wives for the pious), 22 The likes unto pearls hidden. 23 As reward for what they used to do. 24 They will not hear any unnecessary or sinful talk 25 (Naught) but the saying: Peace, (and again) Peace. 26 NOW AS FOR those who have attained to righteousness - what of those who have attained to righteousness? 27 (will be) among thornless Lote trees. 28 And plantains laden with fruit. 29 and spreading shade 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 And fruit, abundant [and varied], 32 Whose season is not limited, nor (supply) forbidden, 33 And maidens incomparable. 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 And made them virgins. 36 chastely amorous, 37 like of age for the Companions of the Right. 38
