The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the inevitable event comes, 1 There is, at its occurrence, no denial. 2 some shall be abased and others exalted. 3 When the earth will be shaken with a terrible shake. 4 And the mountains are crumbled, crumbled. 5 and will scatter abroad into fine dust. 6 And ye are classes three. 7 Companions of the Right, what are the Companions of the Right? 8 And the Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 9 The third to the fore shall be the foremost. 10 They shall be the nearest to God. 11 in the beautiful Paradise. 12 Many of them will be from the ancient people 13 And a few of the later peoples, 14 They (will be seated) on gold-encrusted couches, 15 facing one another. 16 Surrounded by immortal boys. 17 carrying goblets and ewers and cups filled with the purest wine, 18 which will not cause them any intoxication or illness. 19 and such fruits as they shall choose, 20 And the flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And pure, beautiful ones, 22 like pearls preserved in their shells, 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 Therein they hear no vain or sinful discourse. 25 Nought but the saying: peace! peace! 26 The companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 27 They shall be in the midst of thornless lote trees, 28 and clustered bananas, 29 and amid the extended shade 30 Gushing water, 31 and abundant fruit, 32 Neither out of reach nor yet forbidden, 33 and raised couches 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 and made them virgins, 36 loving and of equal age. 37 All this will be for the People on the Right; 38
