The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ When the forthcoming event does occur. 1 (and none denies its descending) 2 Abasing (some), exalting (others); 3 When the earth shall be shaken with a (severe) shaking, 4 And the mountains are crumbled, crumbled. 5 and will scatter abroad into fine dust. 6 On that day, you (mankind) will be divided into three groups: 7 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 8 Then those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) will be those of the left hand! 9 And the foremost are the foremost, 10 It is they who are the close ones. 11 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise). 12 A multitude from the ancients. 13 and how few of the later folk) 14 On couches wrought of gold, 15 they shall recline, facing each other, 16 Immortal youths will wait upon them 17 With goblets, (shining) beakers, and cups (filled) out of clear-flowing fountains: 18 Whereby there shall be neither headiness nor will they be inebriated. 19 And fruit of what they select 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire. 21 and there shall be wide-eyed maidens, 22 The like of the hidden pearls: 23 shall be their recompense for their deeds. 24 No Laghw (dirty, false, evil vain talk) will they hear therein, nor any sinful speech (like backbiting, etc.). 25 only the saying 'Peace, Peace!' 26 And those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 27 They shall be in the midst of thornless lote trees, 28 And [banana] trees layered [with fruit] 29 And extended shade, 30 and flowing water 31 And fruit in plenty, 32 That will neither finish, nor ever be stopped. 33 And on couches or thrones, raised high. 34 Indeed, We have produced the women of Paradise in a [new] creation 35 Then We have made them virgins, 36 The beloved of their husbands, of one age. 37 For those on the Right Hand. 38
