The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the Event (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) befalls. 1 no soul will deny its coming. 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 When the earth is shaken with convulsion 4 and the mountains are totally shattered and crumble to pieces 5 So they will become like fine dust, scattered in a shaft of light. 6 And ye will be three kinds: 7 So those on the Right Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Records in their right hands), Who will be those on the Right Hand? (As a respect for them, because they will enter Paradise). 8 Companions of the Left, what are the Companions of the Left? 9 and the Outstrippers: the Outstrippers 10 Those are they who will be brought nigh 11 In the gardens of bliss. 12 A [large] company of the former peoples 13 And a few from the later generations. 14 On couches in wrought with gold. 15 Reclining on them, facing one another. 16 They will be served by immortal boys, 17 Carrying bowls and pitchers – and cups filled with wine flowing before them. 18 No after-ache will they receive therefrom, nor will they suffer intoxication: 19 along with fruits of their choice; 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire to eat; 21 And wide eyed houris 22 Like unto preserved pearls. 23 All this shall be theirs as a reward for their deeds. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk nor any sinful speech. 25 but only the tiding of inner soundness and peace. 26 As for the people of the right hand, how happy they will be! 27 Midst lote-trees thornless. 28 and acacias flower-clad, 29 And a shade ever-spread. 30 and gushing water, 31 And fruit in plenty 32 never-ending and unforbidden. 33 And maidens incomparable. 34 and the noble maidens that We have created 35 So made them as maidens. 36 Beloved (by nature), equal in age,- 37 For those of the right hand. 38
