The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When the event befalleth - 1 And there can be no denying of its befalling. 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 When the earth is shaken with a shaking [severe,] 4 and the mountains will crumble 5 So that they become dust seattered. 6 And ye will be three kinds: 7 Thus, there shall be such as will have attained to what is right: oh, how [happy] will be they who have attained to what is right! 8 The people of the left hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their left hands. How miserable they will be! 9 The foremost ones (in faith and virtue) - the foremost ones in receiving their reward. 10 They shall be near-stationed (to their Lord), 11 In the Gardens of Pleasure, 12 A numerous company from among the first, 13 and a few from later times. 14 On thrones decorated, 15 reclining on them, arrayed face to face; 16 Immortal youths will wait upon them 17 with goblets, and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 Whereby there shall be neither headiness nor will they be inebriated. 19 along with fruits of their choice; 20 Bird meats that they relish, 21 And gorgeous eyed fair maidens. 22 like pearls preserved in their shells, 23 A recompense for that which they have been working. 24 They shall not hear therein vain or sinful discourse, 25 Other than "Peace, peace" the salutation. 26 And the fellows on the right hand; how be happy shall the fellows on the right hand be! 27 Amid thornless lote-trees, 28 and acacias flower-clad, 29 and amid the extended shade 30 and waters gushing, 31 And fruit in plenty, 32 That will neither finish, nor ever be stopped. 33 And on couches or thrones, raised high. 34 for, behold, We shall have brought them into being in a life renewed, 35 And made them virgins. 36 chaste, loving companions of the same age 37 for those on the Right, 38
