The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ When the forthcoming event does occur. 1 Which is bound to happen undoubtedly -- 2 (a calamitous Event) that shall turn things upside down: 3 When the earth will be shaken with a terrible shake. 4 and the mountains will crumble 5 and will scatter abroad into fine dust. 6 And you will become divided into three categories. 7 So those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 8 And (as to) the companions of the left hand; how wretched are the companions of the left hand! 9 And the preceders are the preceders. 10 It is they who are the close ones. 11 In Gardens of Delight. 12 A large group from the earlier generations. 13 and a lesser number from the later generations. 14 [They will be seated] on gold-encrusted thrones of happiness, 15 reclining on them, arrayed face to face; 16 Youths of never-ending bloom will pass round to them 17 With goblets, (shining) beakers, and cups (filled) out of clear-flowing fountains: 18 by which their minds will not be clouded and which will not make them drunk; 19 they will also go about them with the fruits of which they may choose, 20 and such flesh of fowl as they desire, 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 like the pearls in their shells: 23 All this shall be theirs as a reward for their deeds. 24 They shall not hear therein vain or sinful discourse, 25 only the words of peace and tranquillity. 26 As for those of the right hand -- how (happy) those of the right hand -- 27 (They will be) among thornless lote-trees, 28 And clusters of banana plants. 29 And extended shade, 30 Gushing water, 31 And abundant fruit, 32 never-ending and unrestricted, 33 And raised couches. 34 Surely We have made them to grow into a (new) growth, 35 and shall have made them virgins, 36 chaste, loving companions of the same age 37 For the companions of the right [who are] 38
