The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the forthcoming event does occur. 1 There is no belying its coming to pass-- 2 Degrading (some) and exalting (others); 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 and the mountains fragmented 5 they will become like dust scattered around. 6 And you will become divided into three categories. 7 (First) those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 8 And there shall be such as will have lost themselves in evil: oh, how [unhappy] will be they who have lost themselves in evil! 9 And those who surpassed have indeed excelled. 10 Who will be honoured 11 In gardens of bliss [will they dwell] 12 A large group from the earlier generations. 13 And a few of later ages, 14 They (will be seated) on gold-encrusted couches, 15 they shall recline, facing each other, 16 There wait on them immortal youths 17 with goblets, jugs and cups of crystal clear wine 18 No headache will they have therefrom, nor will they be intoxicated - 19 And fruits that they may like. 20 and the meat of any bird that they may desire; 21 And gorgeous eyed fair maidens. 22 The like of the hidden pearls: 23 shall be their recompense for their deeds. 24 No Laghw (dirty, false, evil vain talk) will they hear therein, nor any sinful speech (like backbiting, etc.). 25 But only the saying of: Salam!, Salam! (greetings with peace)! 26 The Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 27 They shall recline on high amidst lote trees without thorns 28 And acacia covered with heaps of bloom, 29 Lengthened shadows, 30 Gushing water, 31 And fruit in plenty, 32 Neither limited [to season] nor forbidden, 33 And maidens incomparable. 34 Lo! We have created them a (new) creation 35 And made them virgins, 36 Beloved (by nature), equal in age,- 37 like of age for the Companions of the Right. 38
