The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ WHEN THAT which must come to pass [at last] comes to pass, 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 When the earth is shaken with a shock 4 and the mountains fragmented 5 So they will become like fine dust, scattered in a shaft of light. 6 You shall then become three groups. 7 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 8 And the People on the Left: and how miserable will be the People on the Left! 9 The third to the fore shall be the foremost. 10 Those are the ones brought near [to Allah] 11 In gardens of delight; 12 A number of the earlier peoples, 13 And a few from those of later times. 14 on lavish couches 15 Reclining therein face to face. 16 Immortal youths will wait upon them 17 Carrying bowls and pitchers – and cups filled with wine flowing before them. 18 Their heads shall not ache with it, nor shall they lose their senses. 19 and such fruits as they shall choose, 20 And the flesh of fowl such as they desire. 21 And gorgeous eyed fair maidens. 22 Like unto hidden pearls, 23 as reward for their deeds. 24 Not frivolity will they hear therein, nor any taint of ill,- 25 Except the word peace, peace. 26 The Companions of the Right Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 27 Among thorn-less lote-trees. 28 and flower-clad acacias, 29 Lengthened shadows, 30 and waters gushing, 31 and fruit abounding, 32 That will neither finish, nor ever be stopped. 33 and upraised couches. 34 for, behold, We shall have brought them into being in a life renewed, 35 So made them as maidens. 36 Beloved (by nature), equal in age,- 37 For those on the Right Hand. 38
