The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ WHEN THAT which must come to pass [at last] comes to pass, 1 Then will no (soul) entertain falsehood concerning its coming. 2 It will bring low (some); (and others) it will exalt; 3 When the earth is shaken 4 and the mountains will crumble 5 So they will become like fine dust, scattered in a shaft of light. 6 And you (all) will be in three kinds (i.e. separate groups). 7 The people of the right hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their right hands. How happy they will be! 8 And the People on the Left: and how miserable will be the People on the Left! 9 And the foremost are the foremost, 10 Who will be honoured 11 In gardens of tranquility; 12 a host of the ancients 13 and only a few of them from the later generations. 14 [They will be seated] on gold-encrusted thrones of happiness, 15 facing one another. 16 There will circulate among them young boys made eternal 17 Carrying bowls and pitchers – and cups filled with wine flowing before them. 18 They shall not be affected with headache thereby, nor shall they get exhausted, 19 And such fruits as they fancy, 20 Bird meats that they relish, 21 And wide eyed houris 22 beautiful as pearls hidden in their shells. 23 As recompense for all they had done. 24 There hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination 25 only the words of peace and tranquillity. 26 And the fellows on the right hand; how be happy shall the fellows on the right hand be! 27 mid thornless lote-trees 28 and serried acacias, 29 And extended shade, 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 And plenty of fruits. 32 Neither limited [to season] nor forbidden, 33 And on Thrones (of Dignity), raised high. 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 We have made them virgins, 36 Lovers, friends, 37 For the fellows on the right hand. 38
