The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ WHEN THAT which must come to pass [at last] comes to pass, 1 Which is bound to happen undoubtedly -- 2 It will bring low (some); (and others) it will exalt; 3 This will happen when the earth is shaken, shaken 4 And the mountains will be powdered to dust. 5 So that they become a scattered dust, 6 And ye shall be sorted out into three classes. 7 Thus, there shall be such as will have attained to what is right: oh, how [happy] will be they who have attained to what is right! 8 And the Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 9 And the preceders are the preceders. 10 It is they who are the close ones. 11 in the Gardens of Bliss. 12 Many of them will be from the ancient people 13 and how few of the later folk) 14 On couches in wrought with gold. 15 reclining on them facing each other; 16 Immortal youths will serve them 17 with goblets, jugs and cups of crystal clear wine 18 Unheady, uninebriating; 19 along with fruits of their choice; 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire to eat; 21 And companions with big beautiful eyes 22 as the likeness of hidden pearls, 23 The reward for what they did. 24 They will not hear therein ill speech or commission of sin - 25 but only the saying: 'Peace, Peace' 26 And those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 27 Among thornless lote-trees 28 Among Talh (banana-trees) with fruits piled one above another, 29 Lengthened shadows, 30 and gushing water, 31 and abundant fruits, 32 undiminished and never denied 33 And exalted thrones. 34 We have created maidens perfectly 35 And made them virginal, 36 intensely loving and of matching age. 37 For those on the right hand; 38
