The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ WHEN WHAT IS to happen comes to pass -- 1 There is, at its occurrence, no denial. 2 some shall be abased and others exalted. 3 When the earth is shaken 4 and the mountains fragmented 5 So that they become a scattered dust, 6 [on that Day,] then, shall you be [divided into] three kinds. 7 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 8 And (as to) the companions of the left hand; how wretched are the companions of the left hand! 9 And those Foremost (in Faith) will be Foremost (in the Hereafter). 10 Those! they shall be the brought nigh, 11 in the Gardens of Delight, 12 A numerous company from among the first, 13 and a lesser number from the later generations. 14 They (will be seated) on gold-encrusted couches, 15 reclining on them facing each other; 16 immortal youths shall go about them 17 With goblets, (shining) beakers, and cups (filled) out of clear-flowing fountains: 18 Wherefrom they get no aching of the head nor any madness, 19 they will also go about them with the fruits of which they may choose, 20 And with flesh of fowls from that which they desire. 21 And companions with big beautiful eyes 22 like hidden pearls, 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 Not frivolity will they hear therein, nor any taint of ill,- 25 only the words of peace and tranquillity. 26 Those on the Right, how fortunate are those on the Right! 27 Midst lote-trees thornless. 28 And [banana] trees layered [with fruit] 29 And a shade ever-spread. 30 And water everflowing. 31 and abundant fruit, 32 never-ending and unrestricted, 33 They shall be on upraised couches, 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 And made them virgins. 36 Devoted [to their husbands] and of equal age, 37 For those on the Right Hand. 38
