The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ When the Event will come to pass 1 And there can be no denying of its befalling. 2 It will bring down [some] and raise up [others]. 3 When the earth is shaken with convulsion 4 And the mountains will be powdered to dust. 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 And you (all) will be in three kinds (i.e. separate groups). 7 Those on the Right -- how blessed are those on the Right! 8 And there shall be such as will have lost themselves in evil: oh, how [unhappy] will be they who have lost themselves in evil! 9 And the foremost are the foremost, 10 (The foremost ones) will be the nearest ones to God 11 in the beautiful Paradise. 12 Many of them will be from the ancient people 13 and how few of the later folk) 14 On couches wrought of gold, 15 Reclining thereon facing each other. 16 they will be waited on by ageless youths 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of pure drink; 18 by which their minds will not be clouded and which will not make them drunk; 19 Also, they will be served with the fruits of their choice 20 and the meat of any bird that they may desire; 21 And companions with big beautiful eyes 22 like the pearls in their shells: 23 [And this will be] a reward for what they did [in life]. 24 No empty talk will they hear there, nor any call to sin, 25 But only the saying of: Salam!, Salam! (greetings with peace)! 26 As for those of the right hand -- how (happy) those of the right hand -- 27 Among thorn-less lote-trees. 28 And banana-trees (with fruits), one above another. 29 and amid the extended shade 30 And water flowing constantly, 31 And fruit in plenty, 32 unfailing, unforbidden, 33 And raised couches. 34 for, behold, We shall have brought them into being in a life renewed, 35 And made them virgins. 36 The beloved of their husbands, of one age. 37 For the Companions of the Right Hand. 38
