The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the Event will come to pass 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 The event will be abasing some, and exalting some. 3 when the earth will suddenly shake with a terrible shaking, 4 And the mountains shall be crumbled to atoms, 5 Becoming dust scattered abroad, 6 And ye will be three kinds: 7 Those on the right hand; how happy shall those on the right hand be! 8 Then those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) will be those of the left hand! 9 And those who surpassed have indeed excelled. 10 they who were [always] drawn close unto God! 11 In the Gardens of Pleasure, 12 A number of people from those of old, 13 And a few of those (foremost) will be from the later time (generations). 14 Seated on couches wrought in gold and encrusted with precious stones, 15 Reclining thereon, face to face. 16 Surrounded by immortal boys. 17 Carrying bowls and pitchers – and cups filled with wine flowing before them. 18 Their heads shall not ache with it, nor shall they lose their senses. 19 And fruit; that they may choose. 20 and such flesh of fowl as they desire, 21 And (there will be) Companions with beautiful, big, and lustrous eyes,- 22 like hidden pearls, 23 A recompense for that which they have been working. 24 Therein they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 Only the saying, "Peace! Peace". 26 As for those of the right hand -- how (happy) those of the right hand -- 27 mid thornless lote-trees 28 and serried acacias, 29 Lengthened shadows, 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 and fruits in abundance, 32 Unending, unforbidden, 33 And [upon] beds raised high. 34 We have indeed developed these women with an excellent development. 35 and made them virgins, 36 chastely amorous, 37 For the sake of the companions of the right hand. 38
