The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ WHEN WHAT IS to happen comes to pass -- 1 no soul will deny its coming. 2 some shall be abased and others exalted. 3 When the earth is shaken with a shock 4 And the mountains shall be made to crumble with (an awful) crumbling, 5 becoming scattered dust, 6 [on that Day] you shall be divided into three groups. 7 Those on the right hand; how happy shall those on the right hand be! 8 Then those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) will be those of the left hand! 9 The third to the fore shall be the foremost. 10 They shall be the nearest to God. 11 In gardens of delight; 12 A multitude of those of old 13 And a few of those (foremost) will be from the later time (generations). 14 On thrones decorated, 15 Reclining face to face. 16 Round about them will (serve) youths of perpetual (freshness), 17 with goblets and ewers and a cup filled with a drink drawn from a running spring, 18 They shall not be affected with headache thereby, nor shall they get exhausted, 19 And with fruit from that which they choose. 20 and the meat of any bird that they may desire; 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 The likenesses of pearls well-protected, 23 A Reward for the deeds of their past (life). 24 They will not hear any unnecessary or sinful talk 25 Only the saying, "Peace! Peace". 26 As for the People on the Right, how fortunate shall be the people on the Right! 27 Amid thornless lote-trees, 28 and flower-clad acacias, 29 And extended shade, 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 And abundant fruit, 32 unfailing, unforbidden, 33 And raised couches. 34 Indeed We formed them (the houris and all believing women), 35 and We made them spotless virgins, 36 Loving, equals in age, 37 for the people of the right hand 38
