The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the Event (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) befalls. 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 It will bring down [some] and raise up [others]. 3 When the earth is violently shaken 4 And the mountains shall be crumbled to atoms, 5 and become a dust, scattered, 6 On that day, you (mankind) will be divided into three groups: 7 (First) those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 8 And (as to) the companions of the left hand; how wretched are the companions of the left hand! 9 But the foremost shall be [they who in life were] the foremost [in faith and good works]: 10 those are they brought near (to their Lord) 11 in the Gardens of Delight 12 a good many of those of olden times, 13 and a lesser number from the later generations. 14 On thrones woven [with ornament], 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 There shall go round unto them youths ever-young. 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of limpid drink. 18 Wherefrom they get no aching of the head nor any madness, 19 And fruits that they may like. 20 and such flesh of fowl as they desire, 21 And companions with big beautiful eyes 22 Like pearls within their shells, 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 There hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination 25 (Naught) but the saying: Peace, (and again) Peace. 26 And the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 27 They shall recline on high amidst lote trees without thorns 28 and flower-clad acacias, 29 And a shade ever-spread. 30 and flowing water 31 And plenty of fruits. 32 undiminished and never denied 33 And carpets raised. 34 Indeed, We have produced the women of Paradise in a [new] creation 35 And made them virgins, 36 loving companions, matching in age, 37 All this will be for the People on the Right; 38
