The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ When the inevitable event takes place, 1 There is about its happening no lie. 2 (a calamitous Event) that shall turn things upside down: 3 when the earth will suddenly shake with a terrible shaking, 4 and the mountains crumbled, 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 And you will become divided into three categories. 7 Those on the Right -- how blessed are those on the Right! 8 And there shall be such as will have lost themselves in evil: oh, how [unhappy] will be they who have lost themselves in evil! 9 And the preceders are the preceders. 10 Those! they shall be the brought nigh, 11 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise). 12 Many of them will be from the ancient people 13 and only a few of them from the later generations. 14 (They will be) on thrones woven with gold and precious stones, 15 facing one another. 16 Round about them will (serve) youths of perpetual (freshness), 17 With goblets, (shining) beakers, and cups (filled) out of clear-flowing fountains: 18 Their heads shall not ache with it, nor shall they lose their senses. 19 And fruits such as they choose, 20 and the flesh of birds, as they desire. 21 And pure, beautiful ones, 22 as the likeness of hidden pearls, 23 As reward for what they used to do. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk nor any sinful speech. 25 but only the tiding of inner soundness and peace. 26 The Companions of the Right 27 They shall recline on high amidst lote trees without thorns 28 And [banana] trees layered [with fruit] 29 In shade long-extended, 30 and flowing water 31 and fruits abounding 32 never-ending and unforbidden. 33 And [upon] beds raised high. 34 Lo! We have created them a (new) creation 35 and made them virgins, 36 full of love, well-matched 37 For the Companions of the Right Hand. 38
