The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ When the inevitable event comes, 1 There is no belying its coming to pass-- 2 The event will be abasing some, and exalting some. 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 and the mountains will crumble 5 And become dust dispersing. 6 And you shall be three sorts. 7 Thus, there shall be such as will have attained to what is right: oh, how [happy] will be they who have attained to what is right! 8 And the People on the Left: and how miserable will be the People on the Left! 9 The foremost ones (in faith and virtue) - the foremost ones in receiving their reward. 10 These will be those nearest to Allah. 11 They will dwell in the Gardens of Bliss: 12 A [large] company of the former peoples 13 And a few from those of later times. 14 (They will be) on Thrones encrusted (with gold and precious stones), 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 immortal youths shall go about them 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of pure drink; 18 Whereby there shall be neither headiness nor will they be inebriated. 19 And with fruits, any that they may select: 20 And flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And (there are) fair ones with wide, lovely eyes, 22 beautiful as pearls hidden in their shells. 23 All this shall be theirs as a reward for their deeds. 24 No empty talk will they hear there, nor any call to sin, 25 only the saying 'Peace, Peace!' 26 Those on the Right, how fortunate are those on the Right! 27 Among thornless lote-trees 28 Bananatrees, piled 29 And a shade ever-spread. 30 and flowing water, 31 And abundant fruit, 32 unfailing and not forbidden. 33 And raised couches. 34 We have created maidens perfectly 35 And made them virgins, 36 full of love, well-matched 37 for the Companions of the Right 38
