The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ When the great event comes to pass, 1 There is no belying its coming to pass-- 2 Degrading (some) and exalting (others); 3 When the earth shall be shaken to its depths, 4 and the mountains crumbled, 5 Becoming dust scattered abroad, 6 And you become [of] three kinds: 7 Those on the right hand; how happy shall those on the right hand be! 8 And those on the Left Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Record in their left hands), Who will be those on the Left Hand? (As a disgrace for them, because they will enter Hell). 9 And those Foremost (in Faith) will be Foremost (in the Hereafter). 10 They shall be near-stationed (to their Lord), 11 in the Gardens of Delight 12 A multitude from the ancients. 13 And a few of the later peoples, 14 On thrones woven [with ornament], 15 Reclining on them, facing one another. 16 they will be waited on by ageless youths 17 With vessels, pitchers and a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring - 18 No after-ache will they receive therefrom, nor will they suffer intoxication: 19 And with fruits, any that they may select: 20 And meat of birds that they may wish. 21 And (there are) fair ones with wide, lovely eyes, 22 Like unto Pearls well-guarded. 23 As reward for what they used to do. 24 They will not hear therein any vain or sinful talk, 25 But only the saying of: Salam!, Salam! (greetings with peace)! 26 The Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 27 (will be) among thornless Lote trees. 28 And banana-trees (with fruits), one above another. 29 And shade extended 30 And water everflowing. 31 And fruit in plenty 32 Neither limited [to season] nor forbidden, 33 And exalted thrones. 34 Perfectly We formed them, perfect, 35 And made them virgin - pure (and undefiled), - 36 Beloved (by nature), equal in age,- 37 For the Companions of the Right Hand. 38
