The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the inevitable event takes place, 1 and there can be no denying its happening, 2 some shall be abased and others exalted. 3 When the earth will be shaken with a terrible shake. 4 And the mountains will be crushed, blown to bits. 5 and will scatter abroad into fine dust. 6 You shall then become three groups. 7 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 8 And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? 9 and the Outstrippers: the Outstrippers 10 (The foremost ones) will be the nearest ones to God 11 in the Gardens of Delight 12 Many of them will be from the ancient people 13 And a few from among the latter. 14 On studded thrones. 15 they shall recline, facing each other, 16 (and there) shall wait on them immortal youths 17 with goblets and ewers and a cup filled with a drink drawn from a running spring, 18 that will neither make the head throb, nor intoxicate, 19 and such fruits as they shall choose, 20 and the flesh of birds, as they desire. 21 and there shall be wide-eyed maidens, 22 beautiful as pearls hidden in their shells. 23 a recompense for all that they did. 24 They will not hear therein ill speech or commission of sin - 25 All talk will be sound and upright. 26 As for the people of the right hand, how happy they will be! 27 They shall recline on high amidst lote trees without thorns 28 And clusters of banana plants. 29 and amid the extended shade 30 And water flowing constantly, 31 And fruits numberless, 32 Unending, unforbidden, 33 And carpets raised. 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 having resurrected them as virgins, 36 Loving, of equal age. 37 All this will be for the People on the Right; 38
