The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ When the inevitable event takes place, 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 some shall be abased and others exalted. 3 When the earth shall be shaken to its depths, 4 And the mountains will be crushed, blown to bits. 5 So that they become a scattered dust, 6 you shall be divided into three parties, 7 So those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 8 And those on the Left Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Record in their left hands), Who will be those on the Left Hand? (As a disgrace for them, because they will enter Hell). 9 And the forerunners, the forerunners - 10 These are they who are drawn nigh (to Allah), 11 They are in Gardens of peace. 12 a good many of those of olden times, 13 And a few from those of later times. 14 On lined couches, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 immortal youths shall go about them 17 with goblets, and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 by which their minds will not be clouded and which will not make them drunk; 19 and with fruit of any kind that they may choose, 20 And the flesh of fowl such as they desire. 21 and wide-eyed houris 22 Like pearls within their shells, 23 a recompense for all that they did. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 All talk will be sound and upright. 26 The Companions of the Right Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 And clusters of banana plants. 29 And spreading shade, 30 And in perpetually flowing water. 31 and fruits in abundance, 32 unfailing, unforbidden, 33 And maidens incomparable. 34 Lo! We have created them a (new) creation 35 So made them as maidens. 36 full of love, well-matched 37 for the Companions of the Right 38
