The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the Occurrence occurs, 1 no soul will deny its coming. 2 (it will) abase (some) and exalt (others). 3 When the earth will tremble, shivering. 4 and the mountains fragmented 5 and will scatter abroad into fine dust. 6 And you will become divided into three categories. 7 (First) those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 8 And those on the Left Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Record in their left hands), Who will be those on the Left Hand? (As a disgrace for them, because they will enter Hell). 9 and the Outstrippers: the Outstrippers 10 (The foremost ones) will be the nearest ones to God 11 In the Gardens of Pleasure, 12 A multitude from the ancients. 13 and a lesser number from the later generations. 14 On thrones woven [with ornament], 15 reclining on them facing each other; 16 immortal youths shall go about them 17 With cups, and jugs, and a glass from the flowing wine, 18 Wherefrom they will get neither any aching of the head, nor any intoxication. 19 And with fruits, any that they may select: 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire to eat; 21 And [with them will be their] companions pure, most beautiful of eye, 22 Like unto Pearls well-guarded. 23 shall be their recompense for their deeds. 24 They will not hear any unnecessary or sinful talk 25 but only the saying: 'Peace, Peace' 26 And those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 And [banana] trees layered [with fruit] 29 and amid the extended shade 30 and flowing water 31 And fruit, abundant [and varied], 32 Neither limited [to season] nor forbidden, 33 on raised couches. 34 Indeed We formed them (the houris and all believing women), 35 And made them virgins. 36 Loving companions matched in age, 37 For those of the right hand. 38
