The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the great event comes to pass, 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 abasing [some,] exalting [others]! 3 When the earth will be shaken with a terrible shake. 4 And the mountains are crumbled, crumbled. 5 becoming scattered dust, 6 You shall then become three groups. 7 Companions of the Right, what are the Companions of the Right? 8 Then those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) will be those of the left hand! 9 And the preceders are the preceders. 10 These will be those nearest to Allah. 11 In Gardens of Bliss: 12 a good many of those of olden times, 13 And a few of those (foremost) will be from the later time (generations). 14 On thrones decorated, 15 reclining upon them, set face to face, 16 There wait on them immortal youths 17 with goblets, and ewers, and cups filled with water from unsullied springs 18 Unheady, uninebriating; 19 And fruits that they may like. 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire to eat; 21 And (there will be) Companions with beautiful, big, and lustrous eyes,- 22 like unto pearls [still] hidden in their shells. 23 as reward for their deeds. 24 There hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination 25 Only a saying: "Peace, peace." 26 The companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 27 mid thornless lote-trees 28 And plantains laden with fruit. 29 In shade long-extended, 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 and fruits abounding 32 undiminished and never denied 33 And on Thrones (of Dignity), raised high. 34 We have created maidens perfectly 35 and made them virgins, 36 full of love, well-matched 37 For those on the right hand; 38
