The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Event inevitable cometh to pass, 1 There is no belying its coming to pass-- 2 (a calamitous Event) that shall turn things upside down: 3 when the earth will suddenly shake with a terrible shaking, 4 and the mountains are totally shattered and crumble to pieces 5 and will scatter abroad into fine dust. 6 and you shall be three bands -- 7 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 8 And there shall be such as will have lost themselves in evil: oh, how [unhappy] will be they who have lost themselves in evil! 9 And those Foremost (in Faith) will be Foremost (in the Hereafter). 10 Who will be honoured 11 In Gardens of Bliss: 12 a large group of the early believers, 13 And a few of those (foremost) will be from the later time (generations). 14 on lavish couches 15 Reclining on them, facing one another. 16 There will circulate among them young boys made eternal 17 With goblets, (shining) beakers, and cups (filled) out of clear-flowing fountains: 18 Wherefrom they will get neither any aching of the head, nor any intoxication. 19 And with fruits, any that they may select: 20 and the meat of any bird that they may desire; 21 and fair maidens with large, lustrous eyes 22 Like pearls safely hidden. 23 The reward for what they did. 24 They will not hear therein any vain or sinful talk, 25 But only the saying of: Salam!, Salam! (greetings with peace)! 26 The companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 27 They shall be in the midst of thornless lote trees, 28 And acacia covered with heaps of bloom, 29 and amid the extended shade 30 and gushing water, 31 and fruit abounding, 32 never-failing and never out of reach. 33 And maidens incomparable. 34 Indeed We formed them (the houris and all believing women), 35 So made them as maidens. 36 Loving, of equal age. 37 for those on the Right, 38
