The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ WHEN WHAT IS to happen comes to pass -- 1 (and none denies its descending) 2 Abasing (some), exalting (others); 3 When the earth shall be shaken to its depths, 4 and the mountains are shattered into [countless] shards, 5 So they will become like fine dust, scattered in a shaft of light. 6 On that day, you (mankind) will be divided into three groups: 7 Those on the right hand; how happy shall those on the right hand be! 8 And there shall be such as will have lost themselves in evil: oh, how [unhappy] will be they who have lost themselves in evil! 9 And those Foremost (in Faith) will be Foremost (in the Hereafter). 10 They shall be near-stationed (to their Lord), 11 In Gardens of Bliss: 12 A number of the earlier peoples, 13 and a few from later times. 14 (They will be) on thrones woven with gold and precious stones, 15 Reclining on them, facing one another. 16 There wait on them immortal youths 17 with goblets and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 a drink by which their minds will not be clouded nor will it cause drunkenness; 19 And fruit of what they select 20 And the flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And pure, beautiful ones, 22 like unto pearls [still] hidden in their shells. 23 [And this will be] a reward for what they did [in life]. 24 There hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination 25 but only the tiding of inner soundness and peace. 26 And those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 27 mid thornless lote-trees 28 And clustered plantains, 29 And shade extended 30 and outpoured waters, 31 and an abundance of fruits, 32 undiminished and never denied 33 And raised couches. 34 and their spouses We shall have brought them into being afresh, 35 And made them virgins, 36 Beloved (by nature), equal in age,- 37 For those on the right hand; 38
