The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ When the inevitable event comes, 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 abasing [some,] exalting [others]! 3 When the earth shall be shaken to its depths, 4 The mountains bruised and crushed, 5 and become like scattered dust particles, 6 You will become three categories: 7 So those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 8 And there shall be such as will have lost themselves in evil: oh, how [unhappy] will be they who have lost themselves in evil! 9 As for the Foremost, they will be the foremost! 10 those are they brought nigh the Throne, 11 in the Gardens of Delight 12 A throng of the ancients, 13 and only a few of them from the later generations. 14 Seated on couches wrought in gold and encrusted with precious stones, 15 facing one another. 16 they will be waited on by ageless youths 17 With vessels, pitchers and a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring - 18 Wherefrom they will get neither any aching of the head, nor any intoxication. 19 with fruits of their own choice 20 And the flesh of fowls, any that they may desire. 21 and there shall be wide-eyed maidens, 22 beautiful as pearls hidden in their shells. 23 a recompense for that they laboured. 24 Therein they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 only the saying 'Peace, Peace!' 26 As for those of the right hand -- how (happy) those of the right hand -- 27 Amid thornless lote-trees, 28 Bananatrees, piled 29 And extended shade, 30 And in perpetually flowing water. 31 And abundant fruit, 32 Neither limited [to season] nor forbidden, 33 and raised couches 34 Verily We! We have created those maidens by a creation. 35 having resurrected them as virgins, 36 intensely loving and of matching age. 37 with those who have attained to righteousness: 38
