The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ When the inevitable event comes, 1 There is no denying that it will befall - 2 It will abase some and exalt others. 3 This will happen when the earth is shaken, shaken 4 And the mountains will be powdered to dust. 5 So that they become a scattered dust, 6 And ye shall be sorted out into three classes. 7 Thus, there shall be such as will have attained to what is right: oh, how [happy] will be they who have attained to what is right! 8 And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? 9 And the foremost are the foremost, 10 They shall be near-stationed (to their Lord), 11 In Gardens of Bliss: 12 a host of the ancients 13 And a few of those (foremost) will be from the later time (generations). 14 on lavish couches 15 Reclining face to face. 16 There shall go round unto them youths ever-young. 17 Carrying bowls and pitchers – and cups filled with wine flowing before them. 18 a drink by which their minds will not be clouded nor will it cause drunkenness; 19 and with fruit of any kind that they may choose, 20 Bird meats that they relish, 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 beautiful as pearls hidden in their shells. 23 shall be their recompense for their deeds. 24 There hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination 25 Except the word peace, peace. 26 As for the people of the right hand, how happy they will be! 27 They will be in (the shade) of thornless lote 28 And clusters of banana plants. 29 And a shade ever-spread. 30 and gushing water, 31 And fruit abundant. 32 Neither out of reach nor yet forbidden, 33 And raised couches; 34 for, behold, We shall have brought them into being in a life renewed, 35 and made them virgins, 36 Loving, equals in age, 37 For those on the Right Hand. 38
