The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Event will come to pass 1 there is no denying its coming 2 (a calamitous Event) that shall turn things upside down: 3 When the earth is shaken 4 And the mountains shall be crumbled to atoms, 5 Becoming dust scattered abroad, 6 And you become [of] three kinds: 7 Those of the right hand -- how (happy) will be those of the right hand! 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 But the foremost shall be [they who in life were] the foremost [in faith and good works]: 10 Who will be honoured 11 in the beautiful Paradise. 12 A [large] company of the former peoples 13 And a few of later ages, 14 [They will be seated] on gold-encrusted thrones of happiness, 15 Reclining thereon, face to face. 16 immortal youths going round about them 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of limpid drink. 18 No after-ache will they receive therefrom, nor will they suffer intoxication: 19 And fruit that they prefer 20 and such flesh of fowl as they desire, 21 And there will be fair ones large eyed. 22 like pearls preserved in their shells, 23 A recompense for that which they have been working. 24 They will hear no nonsense there or talk of sin, 25 But only the saying of: Salam!, Salam! (greetings with peace)! 26 The companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 27 They shall be in the midst of thornless lote trees, 28 and flower-clad acacias, 29 And spreading shade, 30 And water flowing constantly, 31 and abundant fruits, 32 Neither intercepted nor forbidden, 33 And couches raised up. 34 for, behold, We shall have brought them into being in a life renewed, 35 And made them virgin - pure (and undefiled), - 36 Loving companions matched in age, 37 for those on the Right, 38
