The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ When there happeneth the Event. 1 There is, at its occurrence, no denial. 2 abasing [some,] exalting [others]! 3 When the earth shall be shaken with a (severe) shaking, 4 And the hills are ground to powder 5 Becoming dust scattered abroad, 6 And ye shall be sorted out into three classes. 7 So those on the Right Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Records in their right hands), Who will be those on the Right Hand? (As a respect for them, because they will enter Paradise). 8 And (then) those on the left hand; what of those on the left hand? 9 And the preceders are the preceders. 10 Those! they shall be the brought nigh, 11 In the Gardens of Pleasure, 12 a large group of the early believers, 13 And a few of later ages, 14 On couches wrought of gold, 15 Reclining therein face to face. 16 Immortal youths will serve them 17 carrying goblets and ewers and cups filled with the purest wine, 18 Whereby there shall be neither headiness nor will they be inebriated. 19 they will also go about them with the fruits of which they may choose, 20 And with flesh of fowls from that which they desire. 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 like pearls preserved in their shells, 23 A recompense for that which they have been working. 24 They will not hear therein ill speech or commission of sin - 25 Except the saying, “Peace, peace.” 26 NOW AS FOR those who have attained to righteousness - what of those who have attained to righteousness? 27 They shall recline on high amidst lote trees without thorns 28 Bananatrees, piled 29 and spreading shade 30 And water flowing constantly, 31 and an abundance of fruits, 32 unfailing and not forbidden. 33 And [upon] beds raised high. 34 Indeed We formed them (the houris and all believing women), 35 And made them virgins, 36 Loving, of equal age. 37 For the Companions of the Right Hand. 38
