The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the Event inevitable cometh to pass, 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 It will bring low (some); (and others) it will exalt; 3 when the earth shall be rocked 4 And the mountains are broken down, crumbling 5 and become a dust, scattered, 6 [on that Day,] then, shall you be [divided into] three kinds. 7 Then (as to) the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 8 Then those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) will be those of the left hand! 9 But the foremost shall be [they who in life were] the foremost [in faith and good works]: 10 those are they brought near (to their Lord) 11 In the gardens of bliss. 12 A number of people from those of old, 13 but [only] a few of later times. 14 On couches in wrought with gold. 15 they shall recline, facing each other, 16 There wait on them immortal youths 17 with goblets and ewers and a cup filled with a drink drawn from a running spring, 18 Whereby there shall be neither headiness nor will they be inebriated. 19 and such fruits as they shall choose, 20 And flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And [with them will be their] companions pure, most beautiful of eye, 22 like hidden pearls, 23 A recompense for that which they have been working. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 Except the saying, “Peace, peace.” 26 And those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 27 [They will be] among lote trees with thorns removed 28 and clustered bananas, 29 and shade extended, 30 and outpoured waters, 31 and fruits in abundance, 32 Whose season is not limited, and their supply will not be cut off, 33 and upraised couches. 34 Surely We have made them to grow into a (new) growth, 35 having resurrected them as virgins, 36 Beloved (by nature), equal in age,- 37 For the sake of the companions of the right hand. 38
