The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ When the inevitable event comes, 1 there is no denying its coming 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 and the mountains crumbled, 5 and become like scattered dust particles, 6 And ye will be three kinds: 7 Then (as to) the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 8 And the People on the Left: and how miserable will be the People on the Left! 9 And the foremost in the race, the foremost in the race: 10 Who will be honoured 11 In Gardens of Delight. 12 A multitude from the ancients. 13 and how few of the later folk) 14 On lined couches, 15 reclining upon them, facing one another [in love]. 16 Round about them shall go youths never altering in age, 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of limpid drink. 18 Unheady, uninebriating; 19 And with fruits, any that they may select: 20 And flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 and wide-eyed houris 22 The like of the hidden pearls: 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 Only a saying: "Peace, peace." 26 And the fellows on the right hand; how be happy shall the fellows on the right hand be! 27 [They will be] among lote trees with thorns removed 28 And banana-trees (with fruits), one above another. 29 And extended shade, 30 and gushing water, 31 And fruit in plenty 32 never-ending and unrestricted, 33 and raised couches 34 Surely We have made them to grow into a (new) growth, 35 And made them virgins, 36 loving companions, matching in age, 37 For the Companions of the Right Hand. 38
