The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ When the inevitable event takes place, 1 There is no belying its coming to pass-- 2 Degrading (some) and exalting (others); 3 When the earth is shaken with convulsion 4 And the mountains shall be made to crumble with (an awful) crumbling, 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 You will become three categories: 7 Then (there will be) the Companions of the Right Hand;- What will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 8 Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) 9 The foremost ones (in faith and virtue) - the foremost ones in receiving their reward. 10 They shall be the nearest to God. 11 In gardens of bliss [will they dwell] 12 A large group from the earlier generations. 13 but only a few from the later generations. 14 On couches wrought of gold, 15 Reclining face to face. 16 Surrounded by immortal boys. 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of pure drink; 18 (no brows throbbing, no intoxication) 19 and with fruit of any kind that they may choose, 20 Bird meats that they relish, 21 And (there will be) Companions with beautiful, big, and lustrous eyes,- 22 Like unto hidden pearls, 23 [And this will be] a reward for what they did [in life]. 24 Therein they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 Other than "Peace, peace" the salutation. 26 As for those of the right hand -- how (happy) those of the right hand -- 27 (They will be) among thornless lote-trees, 28 and serried acacias, 29 Lengthened shadows, 30 near to flowing water 31 And abundant fruit, 32 Neither intercepted nor forbidden, 33 on raised couches. 34 and the noble maidens that We have created 35 having resurrected them as virgins, 36 Lovers, friends, 37 for the Companions of the Right 38
