The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Terror descends 1 Which is bound to happen undoubtedly -- 2 some shall be abased and others exalted. 3 when the earth shall be rocked 4 The mountains bruised and crushed, 5 and become like scattered dust particles, 6 And you become [of] three kinds: 7 The people of the right hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their right hands. How happy they will be! 8 Companions of the Left, what are the Companions of the Left? 9 The third to the fore shall be the foremost. 10 These will be those Nearest to Allah: 11 In gardens of bliss [will they dwell] 12 Many of them will be from the ancient people 13 And a few from those of later times. 14 They will recline on jewelled couches 15 Reclining thereon, face to face. 16 Round about them shall go youths never altering in age, 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of pure drink; 18 Unheady, uninebriating; 19 And fruits such as they choose, 20 and the meat of any bird that they may desire; 21 And (there will be) Companions with beautiful, big, and lustrous eyes,- 22 Like unto hidden pearls, 23 As recompense for all they had done. 24 They will not hear therein any vain or sinful talk, 25 but only the tiding of inner soundness and peace. 26 Those on the Right, how fortunate are those on the Right! 27 Amid thornless lote-trees, 28 And banana-trees (with fruits), one above another. 29 and extended shade, 30 and flowing water, 31 And fruit in plenty, 32 never-failing and never out of reach. 33 And on Thrones (of Dignity), raised high. 34 Verily, We have created them (maidens) of special creation. 35 And made them virgins, 36 full of love, well-matched 37 For those on the Right Hand. 38
