The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When there happeneth the Event. 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 The event will be abasing some, and exalting some. 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 And the mountains shall be crumbled to atoms, 5 they will become like dust scattered around. 6 And you will become divided into three categories. 7 Thus, there shall be such as will have attained to what is right: oh, how [happy] will be they who have attained to what is right! 8 And those on the left hand; how miserable shall those on the left hand be! 9 And those who surpassed have indeed excelled. 10 These are they who are drawn nigh (to Allah), 11 In gardens of tranquility; 12 A number of the earlier peoples, 13 And a few of those (foremost) will be from the later time (generations). 14 On studded thrones. 15 they shall recline, facing each other, 16 Youths of never-ending bloom will pass round to them 17 with goblets, jugs and cups of crystal clear wine 18 Wherefrom they will get neither any aching of the head, nor any intoxication. 19 Also, they will be served with the fruits of their choice 20 And flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And (there will be) Companions with beautiful, big, and lustrous eyes,- 22 beautiful as pearls hidden in their shells. 23 As reward for what they used to do. 24 They will not hear therein any vain or sinful talk, 25 Other than "Peace, peace" the salutation. 26 The Companions of the Right 27 Midst lote-trees thornless. 28 And plantains laden with fruit. 29 And spreading shade, 30 near to flowing water 31 and fruits abounding 32 Neither intercepted nor forbidden, 33 and upraised couches. 34 We have created maidens perfectly 35 and We made them spotless virgins, 36 Devoted [to their husbands] and of equal age, 37 For those of the right hand. 38
