The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the forthcoming event does occur. 1 Then none will be able to deny its occurrence. 2 It will bring low (some); (and others) it will exalt; 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 And the mountains will be crushed, blown to bits. 5 Turned to dust, floating in the air, 6 And you (all) will be in three kinds (i.e. separate groups). 7 Thus, there shall be such as will have attained to what is right: oh, how [happy] will be they who have attained to what is right! 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 And the preceders are the preceders. 10 Those are they who will be brought nigh 11 They will dwell in the Gardens of Bliss: 12 Many of them will be from the ancient people 13 And a few from those of later times. 14 Seated on couches wrought in gold and encrusted with precious stones, 15 reclining upon them, set face to face, 16 Surrounded by immortal boys. 17 with goblets, and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 that will neither make the head throb, nor intoxicate, 19 And fruits such as they choose, 20 and such flesh of fowl as they desire, 21 and wide-eyed houris 22 Like unto Pearls well-guarded. 23 A Reward for the deeds of their past (life). 24 They will hear no nonsense there or talk of sin, 25 Except the saying, “Peace, peace.” 26 The companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 27 mid thornless lote-trees 28 And acacia covered with heaps of bloom, 29 In shade long-extended, 30 near to flowing water 31 and fruit abounding, 32 never-ending and unrestricted, 33 on raised couches. 34 Verily We! We have created those maidens by a creation. 35 And made them virgins. 36 Devoted [to their husbands] and of equal age, 37 All this will be for the People on the Right; 38
