The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ When the forthcoming event does occur. 1 Then will no (soul) entertain falsehood concerning its coming. 2 It will bring down [some] and raise up [others]. 3 When the earth is shaken violently, 4 And the mountains are crumbled, crumbled. 5 So that they become a scattered dust, 6 And you shall be three sorts. 7 The People on the Right: and how fortunate will be the People on the Right! 8 And (as to) the companions of the left hand; how wretched are the companions of the left hand! 9 And the preceders are the preceders. 10 Those! they shall be the brought nigh, 11 In gardens of bliss [will they dwell] 12 A number of the earlier peoples, 13 And a few of later ages, 14 [They will be seated] on gold-encrusted thrones of happiness, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 There shall go round unto them youths ever-young. 17 With goblets, (shining) beakers, and cups (filled) out of clear-flowing fountains: 18 Unheady, uninebriating; 19 And with fruit from that which they choose. 20 And flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And gorgeous eyed fair maidens. 22 Like unto hidden pearls, 23 a recompense for all that they did. 24 They will not hear any useless speech in it, or any sin. 25 Nought but the saying: peace! peace! 26 The companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 27 Among thorn-less lote-trees. 28 And clustered plantains, 29 and spreading shade 30 Gushing water, 31 And fruit, abundant [and varied], 32 Neither ending nor forbidden. 33 and raised couches 34 and their spouses We shall have brought them into being afresh, 35 and We made them spotless virgins, 36 The beloved of their husbands, of one age. 37 For the Companions of the Right Hand. 38
