The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Event (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) befalls. 1 Which is bound to happen undoubtedly -- 2 Abasing exalting. 3 When the earth is shaken with a shock 4 And the mountains are broken down, crumbling 5 So that they shall be as scattered dust. 6 and you shall be three bands -- 7 The People on the Right: and how fortunate will be the People on the Right! 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 And those who surpassed have indeed excelled. 10 Those are the ones brought near [to Allah] 11 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise). 12 A multitude from the ancients. 13 And a few of later ages, 14 On thrones woven [with ornament], 15 Reclining face to face. 16 Youths of never-ending bloom will pass round to them 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of limpid drink. 18 They shall not be affected with headache thereby, nor shall they get exhausted, 19 they will also go about them with the fruits of which they may choose, 20 And with flesh of fowls from that which they desire. 21 And there will be fair ones large eyed. 22 like the pearls in their shells: 23 As recompense for all they had done. 24 They will not hear any unnecessary or sinful talk 25 except each other's greetings of, "Peace be with you". 26 And those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 27 mid thornless lote-trees 28 And acacia covered with heaps of bloom, 29 and amid the extended shade 30 And water flowing constantly, 31 and an abundance of fruits, 32 never-ending and unforbidden. 33 And on couches or thrones, raised high. 34 and their spouses We shall have brought them into being afresh, 35 And made them virgins, 36 loving and of equal age. 37 For those on the Right Hand. 38
