The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the Event will come to pass 1 And there can be no denying of its befalling. 2 Abasing (one party), exalting (the other), 3 When the earth is shaken with convulsion 4 And the mountains are crumbled, crumbled. 5 and become like scattered dust particles, 6 And ye will be three kinds: 7 Those on the Right -- how blessed are those on the Right! 8 And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? 9 And the foremost in the race, the foremost in the race: 10 Those! they shall be the brought nigh, 11 in the beautiful Paradise. 12 A numerous company from among the first, 13 and a lesser number from the later generations. 14 On couches wrought of gold, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 Youths of never-ending bloom will pass round to them 17 with goblets and ewers and a cup filled with a drink drawn from a running spring, 18 by which their minds will not be clouded and which will not make them drunk; 19 And with fruits, any that they may select: 20 and the flesh of birds, as they desire. 21 and fair maidens with large, lustrous eyes 22 beautiful as pearls hidden in their shells. 23 shall be their recompense for their deeds. 24 They will not hear any useless speech in it, or any sin. 25 But only the saying of: Salam!, Salam! (greetings with peace)! 26 As for the People on the Right, how fortunate shall be the people on the Right! 27 Amid thornless lote-trees, 28 and flower-clad acacias, 29 And in everlasting shade. 30 And water everflowing. 31 And fruit, abundant [and varied], 32 Neither intercepted nor forbidden, 33 And raised couches; 34 We have created maidens perfectly 35 having resurrected them as virgins, 36 Loving (their husbands only), equal in age. 37 For the sake of the companions of the right hand. 38
