The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the great event comes to pass, 1 there is no denying its coming 2 (a calamitous Event) that shall turn things upside down: 3 When the earth is shaken with a shaking [severe,] 4 and the mountains will crumble 5 So that they shall be as scattered dust. 6 You will become three categories: 7 Those on the Right -- how blessed are those on the Right! 8 And there shall be such as will have lost themselves in evil: oh, how [unhappy] will be they who have lost themselves in evil! 9 And the preceders are the preceders. 10 It is they who are the close ones. 11 in the Gardens of Bliss. 12 A number of the earlier peoples, 13 And a few from those of later times. 14 On thrones woven [with ornament], 15 reclining upon them, set face to face, 16 Youths of never-ending bloom will pass round to them 17 with goblets, and ewers, and cups filled with water from unsullied springs 18 Unheady, uninebriating; 19 And fruits such as they choose, 20 And the flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 like unto pearls [still] hidden in their shells. 23 a recompense for that they laboured. 24 They will hear no nonsense there or talk of sin, 25 Only a saying: "Peace, peace." 26 As for the People on the Right, how fortunate shall be the people on the Right! 27 They will live amid the thornless lot trees 28 And clustered plantains, 29 In shade long-extended, 30 and flowing water 31 and abundant fruit, 32 Whose season is not limited, and their supply will not be cut off, 33 And [upon] beds raised high. 34 and their spouses We shall have brought them into being afresh, 35 And made them virgins. 36 full of love, well-matched 37 All this will be for the People on the Right; 38
