The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ When the forthcoming event does occur. 1 Then none will be able to deny its occurrence. 2 It will bring low (some); (and others) it will exalt; 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 and the mountains are totally shattered and crumble to pieces 5 So that they shall be as scattered dust. 6 And you (all) will be in three kinds (i.e. separate groups). 7 Companions of the Right, what are the Companions of the Right? 8 And there shall be such as will have lost themselves in evil: oh, how [unhappy] will be they who have lost themselves in evil! 9 Then the foremost, how pre-excellent, 10 those are they brought nigh the Throne, 11 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise). 12 Many of them will be from the ancient people 13 and a lesser number from the later generations. 14 On studded thrones. 15 reclining on them, arrayed face to face; 16 There wait on them immortal youths 17 with goblets, and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 They shall not be affected with headache thereby, nor shall they get exhausted, 19 And fruit; that they may choose. 20 And the flesh of fowls, any that they may desire. 21 and there shall be wide-eyed maidens, 22 like hidden pearls, 23 A recompense for that which they have been working. 24 There hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination 25 but only the saying: 'Peace, Peace' 26 And the fellows on the right hand; how be happy shall the fellows on the right hand be! 27 (will be) among thornless Lote trees. 28 and serried acacias, 29 and continuous shade, 30 and flowing water, 31 And plenty of fruits. 32 Neither out of reach nor yet forbidden, 33 And exalted thrones. 34 Indeed We formed them (the houris and all believing women), 35 And made them virgins, 36 Loving companions matched in age, 37 For those on the Right Hand. 38
