The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the Event inevitable cometh to pass, 1 There is no belying its coming to pass-- 2 It will bring down [some] and raise up [others]. 3 When the earth will be shaken with a terrible shake. 4 And the mountains will be powdered to dust. 5 And become dust dispersing. 6 You will become three categories: 7 So those on the Right Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Records in their right hands), Who will be those on the Right Hand? (As a respect for them, because they will enter Paradise). 8 And the Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 9 Then the foremost, how pre-excellent, 10 They shall be the nearest to God. 11 In the Gardens of Pleasure, 12 A [large] company of the former peoples 13 And a few from among the latter. 14 They (will be seated) on gold-encrusted couches, 15 Reclining therein face to face. 16 There wait on them immortal youths 17 with goblets, and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 Wherefrom they get no aching of the head nor any madness, 19 And such fruits as they fancy, 20 And the flesh of fowls, any that they may desire. 21 And [for them are] fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes, 22 Like pearls safely hidden. 23 [And this will be] a reward for what they did [in life]. 24 No empty talk will they hear there, nor any call to sin, 25 but only the tiding of inner soundness and peace. 26 As for those of the right hand -- how (happy) those of the right hand -- 27 Among thorn-less lote-trees. 28 And banana-trees (with fruits), one above another. 29 and shade extended, 30 and flowing water, 31 and abundant fruits, 32 undiminished and never denied 33 And maidens incomparable. 34 and their spouses We shall have brought them into being afresh, 35 and made them virgins, 36 chaste, loving companions of the same age 37 All this will be for the People on the Right; 38
