The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the Event (the resurrection) comes 1 There is, at its occurrence, no denial. 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 when the earth will suddenly shake with a terrible shaking, 4 The mountains bruised and crushed, 5 and become a dust, scattered, 6 [on that Day,] then, shall you be [divided into] three kinds. 7 So those on the Right Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Records in their right hands), Who will be those on the Right Hand? (As a respect for them, because they will enter Paradise). 8 And (as to) the companions of the left hand; how wretched are the companions of the left hand! 9 And those who surpassed have indeed excelled. 10 those are they brought near (to their Lord) 11 In the gardens of bliss. 12 A multitude of those (foremost) will be from the first generations (who embraced Islam). 13 and a lesser number from the later generations. 14 On couches in wrought with gold. 15 Reclining thereon, face to face. 16 Immortal youths will serve them 17 with goblets, and ewers, and cups filled with water from unsullied springs 18 Wherefrom they will get neither any aching of the head, nor any intoxication. 19 And fruit of what they select 20 and the meat of any bird that they may desire; 21 And [with them will be their] companions pure, most beautiful of eye, 22 Like pearls safely hidden. 23 Reward for what they used to do. 24 They shall not hear therein vain or sinful discourse, 25 Nought but the saying: peace! peace! 26 As for the people of the right hand, how happy they will be! 27 They will be in (the shade) of thornless lote 28 and flower-clad acacias, 29 In shade long-extended, 30 And water gushing, 31 And fruit, abundant [and varied], 32 Neither ending nor forbidden. 33 And on couches or thrones, raised high. 34 and their spouses We shall have brought them into being afresh, 35 And made them virginal, 36 loving companions, matching in age, 37 For those of the right hand. 38
